The Winkin’ Rooster is a unique and beloved deli located in Arden Hills, Minnesota. We had the honor of re-designing their previous logo into something bold, fun, but professional.
After strategizing with the owner and the goals of their business, Lissa Li Studio decided to pull design elements from the menu boards that we had done years ago. Black “chalkboard” with white lettering was a favorite approach, with illustrated vegetables, sandwiches, with red as an accent color.
In order to call back to the “edgy” and masculine vibe of the ownership that so many customers recognized and appreciated, we sought out an artist with the illustration style resembling tattoo art. Lissa Li Studio commissioned and worked closely with Minnesota artist Holli Kern to achieve the rooster mascot for the deli!
The semi-realistic rooster was combined with the polished but playful font family of Hanley. Menu boards and other print collateral is designed with the Montserrat font family. The color scheme includes the iconic “Winkin’ Red” as well as a dark red, yellow, and grey, all found within the rooster illustration.
